The director of the center; Dr. Zeyad Alshboul
The Water and Environment Research Center was established in 2022 to address the urgent need to mitigate the impacts of climate change on limited resources and to develop emergency response plans for water and environmental services. The center aims to preserve the environment, prevent degradation, protect ecosystems, manage water resources, integrate smart systems in the water and environment sectors, and contribute to raising awareness and building the capacities of the local community to achieve sustainability.
The aim of the center is to create an innovative environment for smart and sustainable solutions for managing water resources, waste management, and responding to emergencies associated with disease outbreaks and disasters. The center offers various services and activities to a wide range of target groups, including:
The center’s plan is aligned with its strategy to engage partners in identifying challenges, contributing to solutions and responses, offering consultations, and attracting donors to support practical initiatives in water and environmental projects. Coordination among partners is maintained through continuous dialogue and their involvement in the center’s committees, leveraging shared expertise and efforts, and fostering collaboration through agreements and joint research projects. The center aims to build scientific communities that strive to overcome challenges and achieve development by enhancing collaboration between relevant sectors, such as tourism and agriculture, self-employment programs, and researchers in environmental economics.
In addition to its research and educational activities, the center aims to enhance the university’s ranking in global classifications through international networking, attracting talents, launching initiatives, and securing funding. The center serves as an innovative platform for youth, empowering them to tackle the challenges their communities face regarding water, environment, and other affected sectors. This support helps their communities create job opportunities and make use of available resources in areas such as agriculture and ecotourism. The center is based on clear, measurable reference points and indicators for development, participation, and social inclusion, aligning with the university’s strategic objectives and vision.
To lead in water and environmental research, providing consulting, training, and community service.
To serve the community and local environment by providing data for researchers and stakeholders in water and environmental fields, attracting research support, and promoting environmental awareness campaigns on relevant topics. This will be achieved by developing an infrastructure and management system to support research, studies, and training, as well as by offering learning resources, equipment, testing services, and access to specialists in the fields of water and the environment.
