The Faculty of Arts was established with the founding of the university in 2009 under the name Faculty of Arts and Educational Sciences. The Department of Arabic Language and Literature and the Department of Special Education were introduced, and the faculty welcomed its first cohort of students in these two specializations at the beginning of the first semester of the 2009/2010 academic year.
The approval to establish the Department of Psychological Counseling was granted in 2010, and the first batch of students was admitted at the beginning of the first semester of the 2010/2011 academic year. The fourth department, the Department of English Language and Literature, was introduced in 2011, and the first group of students was admitted in the first semester of the 2011/2012 academic year. By the decision of the Higher Education Council on 13/11/2014, the Department of University Requirements and Fundamental Sciences was established starting from the first semester of the 2014/2015 academic year, offering university requirement courses and fundamental science courses.
The Faculty of Arts works to provide original and distinctive academic programs that keep pace with developments in the fields of languages, literature, and the humanities. It also seeks to achieve a distinguished cultural and scientific presence through organizing high-quality scientific and cultural events, as well as conferences that enrich the knowledge and experiences of students and faculty. These activities help prepare them to contribute to community development, cultural exchange, and fruitful human communication. The faculty’s programs are based on human knowledge heritage, keeping up with developments in various fields of languages, literature, and humanities.
The goal is to graduate outstanding students specialized in the disciplines offered by the faculty.
The Faculty of Arts always strives for continuous development and expansion of its scientific activities. As the number of departments and faculty members increased, the university decided to separate the educational sciences from the arts, which led to the creation of a new faculty the Faculty of Educational Sciences.
The Faculty of Arts, however, continued to focus on the fields of arts, languages, and supporting humanities disciplines in a specialized manner, and its name was changed to the Faculty of Arts, which includes the Departments of Arabic Language and Literature, English Language and Literature, University Requirements and Fundamental Sciences, and the newly established Department of History in the 2020/2021 academic year.
Given the university’s capabilities, infrastructure, and qualified staff, a Master’s program in Arabic Language and Literature was launched in the first semester of the 2022/2023 academic year to produce specialized graduates who possess the competencies necessary to work in state institutions, research centers, and teaching positions both locally and internationally.
The Faculty of Arts continues to carry the mission of Ajloun National University in the world, promoting enlightenment and human knowledge. It collaborates with other faculties of arts in the Kingdom of Jordan, the Arab world, and globally, ensuring that our students remain active participants in the global human knowledge network.
